Day 1

KOTA KINABALU - KINABALU PARK 

  • Pick up from airport or hotel lobby, transfer to Kinabalu park HQ (~2hrs journey)

  • Check in Kinabalu Park Hostel

  • Free & Easy

  • Rest for the day and prepare for hike

  • Dinner served at Kinabalu Park

Itinerary

Day 2

KINABALU PARK - VIA TIMPOHON - LABAN RATA RESHOUSE

  • Breakfast at Kinabalu Park Restaurant. Collect your packed lunch

  • Proceed to Park HQ for registration

  • Guides will be arrange for all necessary registration arrangements

  • Transfer to starting point (Timpohon Gate), the climb will take approximately 4-5hrs depending on your fitness condition

  • Upon arrival at Laban Rata @ 3,272m, check in hostel

  • Dinner served at Laban Rata Restaurant 

Day 3

SUMMIT CLIMB - LABAN RATA - TIMPOHON GATE - KINABALU PARK

  • Wake up around 2am for supper and continue the journey towards the summit of Mount Kinabalu @ 4,095m

  • Experience the beautiful sunrise over the majestic Mount Kinabalu if weather permits

  • Descend back to Laban Rata for late breakfast and check out.

  • Continue trekking towards Timpohon Gate and transfer back to Park HQ (estimated arrival 1pm-3pm, depending on fitness level)

  • You may collect your certificate

  • Buffet Lunch served at Kinabalu Park Restaurant

  • Transfer back to Kota Kinabalu City.

Checklist -Pack Light but Pack Right

  • 2 bags: a day pack with two shoulder straps to carry the things you will use on the mountain (water included) & also a “gym” bag to keep the rest of your belongings for your after-climb activities.

    • Pack all your things INSIDE your bag, nothing should be left dangling outside of it.

    • Load the heavier stuff at the bottom of the bag and the lighter stuff on top.

    • Porters are available at the park HQ if you wish to hire them.

  • Ziplocs & trash bags                                To keep your travel documents &  electronic devices  dry

  • Torchlight/ Headlamp                              Keep hands free during summit climb (extra batteries!!)

  • Windproof Rainwear                                Rain & Wind protection

  • Poncho                                                  Rain protection

  • Balaclava/ Beanie e.g. ski mask                Warmth essential (the head loses 40% of body heat)

  • Mittens or Gloves                                    Warmth essential

  • Sweater/Fleece Jacket                             Warmth essential

  • Thermal wear                                         Ideal as a first layer

  • Tee shirts                                              Both long and short sleeved (quick dry material ideal)

  • Comfortable walking shorts                      For first half of the trek & other city activities

  • Warm, comfortable trousers                    Warmth essential – e.g. track pants, zip offs, NO jeans

  • Change of clothes                                   For the night at Laban Rata area

  • Lightweight socks                                   For trek to Laban Rata (bring spares)

  • Thicker socks for summit                         Protects against blisters
