Day02: NAIROBI/NANYUKI – SAMBURU WILDLIFE SANCTUARY (DIST. 325km)

 L/D

Drive through the countryside to arrive at the Samburu Wildlife Santuary, in time for lunch and a noon game drive. After the day’s game drives, dinner and overnight at the Safari Lodge

Park Information: Samburu Wildlife Sanctuary lies to the North of the Equator, 325 km from Nairobi.  The 104sq Sanctuary is within the hot and arid fringes of the vast Northern region of Kenya – the land of the colorful Samburu people, who are close relatives of the Maasai.  This sanctuary harbors a number of wildlife species rarely found elsewhere. These include Grevy's Zebra, the Reticulated Giraffe and the Beisa Oryx, all species are found only north of the equator. The long-necked Gerenuk is a graceful antelope which spends much of its time in a bi-pedal stance seeking succulence amongst the withered scrub which dots this harsh terrain.

Samburu is scenically and faunally dramatic for most part of the year. It is serene under the unsympathetic equatorial sun. But relief comes from the wide swathe of the Ewaso Nyiro River which rises some hundreds of kilometers to the west on the foothills of the Aberdares and which vanishes beyond Samburu in the recesses of the Lorian swamp

Day03: SAMBURU – LAKE NAKURU (DIST. 225km – 4hrs)

B/L/D

In the early morning, you re-join the safari guide for a morning game drive, after which, you then return to the lodge for breakfast. Next, it’s a scenic drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, passing by the Kikuyu escarpment with fine views of the Kedong Valley and Mount Suswa and Longonot. Arrive for lunch before the afternoon game drive around the Lake. Meals and overnight at the Safari Lodge.

Park Information: This National park offers one of the world's most spectacular wildlife sights, just imagine, brilliant pink flamingos covering the lake, as far as the eye can see! When conditions are right, between one to two million lesser and greater flamingos feed around the shores of the shallow soda lake, together with tens of thousands of other birds. This 62sq km, world famous alkaline lake of the Kenya’s Rift Valley, is the regular haunt for pink flamingos. The landscape is awesome, picturesque areas of sedge, marsh and grasslands alternating with rocky cliffs and outcrop. In the late 80's, the park became Kenya's first rhino sanctuary and today, is home to both the White and Black Rhinos. Lions, leopards, hippos, giraffes, waterbucks are equally at home in this unique park

Day04: LAKE NAKURU – MASAI MARA (275kms – 51/2hrs)

B/L/D

After breakfast at the lodge, we travel to the Masai Mara Game Reserve. We travel through the town of Narok… approaching the plains of this wildlife park, fondly referred to as the “pearl of Kenyan parks”.  A natural extension of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, the Mara is world famous for its vast assemblages of plains game together with their associated predators. It is a country of breath-taking vistas, a panorama of vast rolling plains and rounded hills of intermittent groves of acacia woodlands and dense thickets of shrub. The whole is bisected by the Mara River and its tributaries, which are margined by luxuriant riverine forest. On arrival, lunch and check-in at the lodge. Mid-Afternoon game drive around the reserve. Return to the lodge by sunset. Meals and overnight at the Safari Lodge.

Day05: MASAI MARA

B/L/D

Morning and afternoon game drives. Your driver-guide will be more than happy to show you all that makes the Mara so unforgettable! Meals and 2nd overnight at the Safari Lodge.

Park Information: This 1510 sq km Masai Mara is the best of the Kenyan Game Reserves which offers a great game experience. This is the most famous and most visited reserve in Kenya. It offers breathtaking views (seen in the film, `Out of Africa’). The highlight of the Mara is undoubtedly the great migration of Wildebeest which move north from the Serengeti in July, August & September in search of lush grass. They return South in October before the rainy season. The grasslands are also home to the big cats, like the Lions, Cheetahs, and Leopards. Elephant, Buffalo, Zebra, and Hippopotamus roam in large herds while the Topi, Impala, and Coke's Hartebeest are also abundant. Masai Mara has the largest population of Lions.
